THE LEGEND OF THE CITY OF SVIYAZHSK

Moscow, Tretyakov Gallery
21.02.2018 - 20.05.2018
The exhibition was conceived as a journey to the era when a new city was founded not far from Kazan, on an island at the mouth of the Sviyaga River, which flows into the Volga. The city later played an important part first in the preparation of the famous victorious Kazan campaign of 1552, and then in the history of the region, which became part of the Russian state.

The exhibition presented manuscripts and icons of the 16th century, telling about the military campaign, the founding of the city, the decoration of its monasteries and churches, and about the first saints who became famous in this area.
