ROMA AETERNA
Moscow, Tretyakov Gallery
A unique project of the Tretyakov Gallery: for the first time the Vatican Museums showed the best part of their collection in Russia: masterpieces of the 12th to 18th centuries, including works by Giovanni Bellini, Melozzo da Forlì, Perugino, Raphael, Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Guercino, Nicholas Poussin. The exhibition, curated by Arkady Ippolitov (State Hermitage Museum), featured 42 paintings. Never before had the Vatican Museums(which are among the ten largest collections in the world) taken out such a significant number of outstanding works from their permanent exposition at the same time. The exhibition was an essential event not only for Russia and Europe, but for the whole world.
