NOT FOREVER. 1968 — 1985

Moscow, New Tretyakov Gallery
July 07, 2020 - October 11, 2020
This is a large-scale research exhibition, which is conceived as the second part of a trilogy dedicated to post-war Soviet art and includes exhibitions about three historical periods: The Khrushchev thaw(mid 1950s - mid 1960s), The Era of Stagnation(mid 1960s - mid 1980s) and Perestroika (late 1980s). “NOT FOREVER…” aims to analyse individual and mass consciousness of this time using the works of art. This is the first attempt at such an analysis in domestic museum practice. Also, for the first time, Soviet art of the late 1960s - mid-1980s is contemplated in the context of the global problems of postmodernism.

The scenography of the exhibition partly acts as a medium between works of art, the meanings implied by the curators of the exhibition, and visitors. For each of the scenes of the exposition we were looking for our own visual solution, which, on the one hand, hints at the topic and context of the time, and on the other hand, does not distract attention from the works of art.
