CHILDHOOD. DREAMS

Samara, Tretyakov Gallery
November 5, 2025 — March 29, 2026
The project recreates the space of a child's dream, transporting visitors to a lost world of the past. The focus is on the world of the ideal childhood of a Soviet child: dreams, fantasies, desires, and thoughts about the future. In this project, the museum experiments with format, focusing attention on people's feelings and memories. The exposition is supplemented with household items, toys, photographs, and children's drawings.

The architecture of the exposition recreates the atmosphere of spaces significant to a child: a toy store, a school classroom, a house made of sofa cushions, the courtyard of a Soviet Khrushchyovka building.
To create the new environment of the exposition, structures from the exhibition "Collector Ivan Morozov: From Van Gogh to the Avant-Garde" are used. This approach is important not only for its economic efficiency, but also because it corresponds to the principles of conscious consumption, adding new semantic depth to the project.

The exhibition presents 63 works from the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Samara Regional Art Museum, as well as from private collections. Visitors will be able to see such masterpieces as "Again a Deuce" by Fyodor Reshetnikov, "Future Pilots" by Alexander Deineka, "1918 in Petrograd" by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, "Summer" by Tatyana Yablonskaya, "Picture for Children" by Pyotr Konchalovsky, and many others. The works of art reflect the "adult" view of the theme of childhood: artists contemplate their own path of growing up and the experience of parenthood.

Specially for the exhibition, installations were created by the art group "Sady" and Russian artist Eldar Ganeev. Alongside them, important exhibits were testimonies left by children themselves: diary entries, memories, drawings, folklore, as well as more than two hundred artifacts of everyday life provided by the P.V. Alabin Samara Regional Museum of Local History, the Samara museum "Children's Picture Gallery," the Russian State Archive in Samara, the Yandex Museum Collection, and local collectors.
