This exhibition is the first art project that invites viewers to travel around the world of Russian film director Alexey Balabanov. The retrospective exhibition, which unites all the director’s films, edited and not released, into a single story, is an opportunity to be inside the cinematic universe of Alexey Balabanov, to see what he almost never talked about and how he created films that became a reflection of the era.
The exposition takes the audience through each film that the director worked on allowing you to see how the idea of the film completely captured life of Alexey Balabanov, and the created cinema transformed the world in which he lived. His sons, Peter and Fedor Balabanov act as guides along it.
The project invites viewers to enter into a conversation with a tragically early departed artist; not just to watch, but to participate, to be in the same time and place as Alexey Balabanov.
Thoughtful scenography and the way of movement through the exhibition along with an abundance of archival materials (photos, videos, numerous artifacts, sketches) help to tune in to an attentive conversation with Balabanov.
